Resumen:
In a previous work, (D'Adamo et al. 2014) we study the active control over a backward-facing step flow by means of a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) actuator. The actuator introduced momentum to the flow, generating a jet-like flow that played an important role on the flow dynamics. In the present work, we isolated the forcing flow for such geometry in order to characterize the electrical to mechanical energy conversion. Special care must be taken into account regarding heating produced by the DBD. For weak induced velocities, below 0.5 m/s, we cannot separate heat convection and from the ``electric wind`` produced by the DBD. On the other hand, we explore amplitude (Voltage between electrodes, Duty Cycle) and frequency forcing parameters of the DBD jet by means of temporal and spatial measures of the flow field, measured with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV).
