Resumen:
Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) integrates pre initiation complex and polysomes throught binding on 5´cap mRNA. Relevant amynoacidic residues involved in its association to transcripts in Dorosphila melanogaster are W100 and W147 homologous to W56 and W102 in mammals. Association of eIF4E to mRNA and consequently regulation of translation, is carried out by interaction of eIF4E with other proteins, through W100 (like mammalian W73). Remodelling of ribonucleoproteins complex from active to inactive state is one important step in regulation of mRNA turnover and protein synthesis. Such event is associated to formation of cytoplasmic granulues denominated processing bodies (PBs) where mRNA interact with proteins involved in degradation and silencig of mRNA. Despite this, eIF4E still present and is detected in PBs.
