Resumen:
Arsenic is a highly polluting and toxic metalloid. Their presence is veryharmful to the environment. In the copper metallurgy, the permissible limit mustnot exceed 0.5%. A higher content during copper concentrates melting processescan cause gases emissions and even refractory lining corrosion. This meansimportant losses. When copper concentrates, present high percentages of arsenicthey cannot be marketed. The aim of this paper is to provide an alternativeprocessing to apply for these type of concentrates, avoiding the environmentdamage. It is possible to apply a leaching in a NaHS / NaOH media successfully. Thecomplete arsenic removal is possible at the temperature 60 °C with an operatingtime of 4 hours. This information is an important contribution to the processes ofcopper extractive metallurgy and the mining of non-renewable resources.
