Resumen:
Benznidazole (BZL), a drug used for the treatment of Chagas? disease, modulates hepatic redox homeostasis in an acute inflammation model Lambertucci, F; Francés, D; Carnovale, CE, Ronco, MT Instituto de Fisiología Experimental ? CONICET. Facultad de Ciencias Bioquímicas y Farmacéuticas. Universidad Nacional de Rosario We demonstrated that BZL modulates immune response in an acute inflammation model as cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). CLP treated mice showed a decrease of hepatic TNFα levels and NFkB activity. Aim: to evaluate if BZL modulate liver homeostasis redox in an acute inflammation model. C57BL/6 mice were divided into four experimental groups (n=6): Sham+vehicle (carboxymethylcellulose); Sham+BZL (25 mg/kg b.w), CLP+vehicle (CLP); CLP+BZL 25 mg/kg b.w (CLP+BZL 25). Animals were treated 2 hours before surgery and every 12 hours. 24 hours post-surgery animals were euthanatized. BZL significantly attenuated the increase in lipoperoxidation levels (MDA, Sham:5.24±0.36; Sham+BZL:5.28±0.50; CLP:7.92±0.71*; CLP±BZL:3.88±0.08#) and % of oxidized glutathione (Tietze, Sham:0.18±0.06; Sham+BZL:0.22±0.02; CLP:0.72±0.09*; CLP±BZL:0.370±0.08#) observed in liver of CLP.
