Resumen:
The importance of pottery production at the site of Conchopata is well known. Recent research at the site is contributing to expand our knowledge about it and its broader social and political context. In this paper I will discuss the pottery firing structures unearthed during the 2000 field season. The characteristics of these kilns and of the materials associated with them are presented, and compared to other known Andean cases. Their relationships with surrounding areas of the site are explored in order to address the issue of the development of craft specialization and social differentiation during the early Middle Horizon.
