Resumen:
This special issue focused on recent advances of the Jurassic System in Argentina was inspired by works presented and discussed during the 7th Argentine Symposium of the Jurassic held in 2019 at Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Twenty years have passed this year since the initial conception of the First Argentine Symposium of the Jurassic by the Jurassic Subcommittee of the Argentine Stratigraphy Committee, on May 2, 2001. The meeting was finally achieved in 2003, leaving a legacy for Argentine researchers dedicated to the study of this exceptional geological system. After the 7th Symposium, the participants, as well as other researchers in the Jurassic System of Argentina, were invited to contribute to this special issue reaching twelve research papers. These consist in updated works on different topics, like geochronology, sedimentary environments, provenance, sequence stratigraphy, cyclostratigraphy, biostratigraphy, paleobotany, as well as invertebrate and vertebrate paleontology, from different basins through the southern Central Andes and Patagonia. The first six contributions cover different topics on the Jurassic of the Deseado and North Patagonian massifs, and the last six contributions constitute detailed case studies of different units of the Neuquén Basin, in the west-central Argentina.
