NUEVA EVIDENCIA MORFOTECTÓNICA EN EL FALDEO ORIENTAL DE LA SIERRA DE LA HUERTA: EL SISTEMA DE FALLA MARAYES, SIERRAS PAMPEANAS OCCIDENTALES

On the piedmonts that surround the mountain ranges of the sierra de La Huerta, Sierras Pampeanas Occidentales, several geomorphological evidence of faults with quaternary tectonic activity are presented. In the eastern slope of the sierra, alluvial levels dislocated by structures with NW orientation have been observed. The different traces identified, and their associated fault escarps, generally have the free face towards the W and in subordinate form, towards the E. From this evidence, the Marayes fault system has been defined, a potential seismogenic source that could generate an earthquake of magnitude Mw = 6.6.
