Resumen:
It is believed that development of the plants was and still is influenced by the presence of associated microorganisms. This evolution has allowed the development of mechanisms of communication between the host plant and its surrounding microbial community, involving the production of various signal molecules. One of the communication processes is known as quorum sensing (QS) and it is based on the synthesis, detection and response of bacteria to homoserine lactones molecules (HSL). Plants produce compounds capable of interfering with bacterial QS. The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of HSL mimic signals (mQS) or molecules capable of interfering bacterial QS (iQS) in plant exudates from Arachis hypogaea (peanut). Exudates from seeds and roots were obtained in Hoagland medium, concentrated by lyophilization and organic extraction into ethyl acetate. HSL detection was performed by using the biosensors Cromobacterium violaceum CV026 and Agrobacterium tumefaciens NTL4 (pZLR4). mQS activity for HSLs of long side chain and iQS molecules for HSL of short side chain were detected in both, seeds and roots plant exudates. This allows us to hypothesize that the peanut plant could have developed an adaptive strategy for selecting the microorganisms capable of colonizing its rhizosphere. Rhizobia symbionts and rhizospheric bacteria isolated from peanut are able to synthesize and/or respond only to HSLs of long side chain. The presence of an iQS plant system for HSL of short side chain would explain the existence of a rhizospheric community consisting of peanut bacteria that communicate through QS linked to HSLs of long side chain
