Resumen:
Chronic cardiomyopathy is the most important clinical manifestationof Chagas disease. We previously demonstrated in a murine infection model that fenofibrate (Fen), PPARα agonist, controls inflammation, prevents fibrosis and improves cardiac function. Considering that different subpopulations of monocytes (mono) are involvedin the progression of cardiomyopathy, we decided to characterizethese subpopulations according to the stage of the disease and toevaluate if in vitro treatment with Fen drives mono towards a tissuerepair profile. Seventeen healthy individuals (HI) and 16 patientswith positive serology for Chagas, without (E0) and with chronicChagas cardiomyopathy (CCC) were included. Peripheral bloodmononuclear cells were purified, cultured and stimulated or not withT. cruzi (Tc) lysates (10μg / ml), and treated with Fen (100μM). Under basal conditions, CCC showed a higher percentage of classicalmono than E0 (p
