Resumen:
The northwest of Argentina allocates salarswith Li-bearing brines that are beenexplored for the Li-batteries industry, two ofwhich are in production (Fenix in HombreMuerto salar, Catamarca, and Olaroz inOlaroz salar, Jujuy). The Li carbonateproduction needs of several resources thatwould condition the price of the commercialproduct: CaO and Na 2CO3. As the regioncontains several carbonate quarries inNeoproterozoic and Mesozoic rocks,adequate to CaO production, the potentialof installation of a Na2CO3 industry bySOLVAY process is analyzed. This processinvolves NaCl (solution) that can be benefitfrom NaCl-brines in salars, Ca2CO3 that canbe transported from Salta or Jujuy provinces,and ammoniac that is been produced in ElGalpón (Salta). According to facilities (land,energy, connectivity) for industrial plants inPocitos and Cauchari, and considering theresources availability, there is potential forthe installation of a SOLVAY plant forproduction of Na 2CO3 in the Puna, in thevicinity of Pocitos - Rincón ? Olaroz-Caucharisalars. Reserves calculation and economicevaluation might be conducted in future forperform pre- and feasibility studies.
