Resumen:
New division of the pre-Mesozoic metallogenic epochs in NW Argentina. The Northwest of Argentina is conformed by several regions: Puna, Eastern Cordillera, Subandean Ranges, Santa Bárbara System and the NW portion of NW Pampean Ranges. From the metallogenic point of view, there was defined only one metallogenic epoch (ME) for the Neoproterozoic-Permian interval, which included extremely variable mineral deposits, associated with diverse geotectonic settings. Here arguments are presented that allow a new definition of the ME for such interval, considering the geotectonic processes through time: i) MEI (Neoproterozoic-Late Cambrian), with industrial rock deposits; ii) MEII (Ordovician), with arc, back-arc and proximal basin environments, and genesis of metamorphic (Al), pegmatite, Au-Cu-Pb-Zn-Ba hydrothermal, sedex?VMS, and phosphorite deposits; iii) MEIII (Silurian), with proximal marine basins and sedimentary-Fe deposits; iv) MEIV (Devonian), with formation of siliciclastic marine basins associated to oil accumulation; v) MEV (Carboniferous-Permian), characterized by intracratonic basins and alkaline ultramafics.
