Resumen:
This chapter provides insights on the stratigraphic variability of sedimentary facies and processes within different depositional environments in the Vaca Muerta Formation to help identify and predict the extent and thickness of lithofacies that hold high reservoir potential and that act as frack barriers. The contribution presents lithologic, mineralogical, geochemical and geomechanical data, from cores and outcrops. The integration of this rich dataset 1) documents stratigraphic stacking patterns within different units and localities; 2) provides evidence for depositional processes conveying how they produce the stratigraphic architecture (clinoform), 3) emphasizes where and how sedimentology may help the understanding of self-sourced unconventional reservoirs.
