Antinuclear antibodies in chronic hepatitis C

Our objetive was to determine the prevalence of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) in patients with patients with crhonic hepatitis C. Anas was detected in 71% of patients with HCV infection and 4% of healthy controls (p<0.05)  The presence of ANAs was related with demographic variables and to HCV genotype. Our data indicate that a high prevalence of ANA can be found in crhonic HCV infection with different patterns from the ones found in patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
