Resumen:
The legendary aptitude of South-American Indians for the learning and practice of Western Music, reported by many travelers in the Jesuit missions, is here scrutinized. The native's perception of a transcendent power in the missionaries' music can be gleaned from contemporary sources, as well as their understanding of that power as something any practitioner could wield for his own purposes.
