Methodological and ethical dilemmas encountered during field research of family violence in adolescent women (Buenos Aires)

Violence against women comes with many consequences for their lives. The article exposes methodological obstacles and ethical dilemmas encountered in a research centered in violence during pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperal stage in adolescent women from Argentina. The design had a quantitative phase based on a survey and a qualitative phase that included unstructured interviews with purposively selected adolescents. The themes discussed are: the implications of institutional resistances and opening to conduct the research, issues related to the planning and adjustment of the instruments and the ethics in practice. It emphasizes the role and responsibility of science as a step forward in the description but also in the prevention of violence, facilitating that the voices of women oppressed left domestic invisibility and achieve public connotation.
