Resumen:
In thepresentstudy,theacutetoxicityofcadmium(Cd)inwhiteshrimp(Palaemonetesargentinus) from a metalpollutedlagoon(LosPadres,LP)andfromunpollutedlagoon(NahuelRuca,NR)wasevaluated. Both population,wereexposedto3.06,12.26,30.66,61.32,306and613.2 mg Cd L1 for96-h.The sublethaleffectsofCdwereexaminedbytwocellularbiomarkers:metallothionein(MT)andlipid peroxidation(LPO).Theseasonalvariationsofbiomarkersinbothlagoonswerealsoevaluated. P. argentinus demonstratedahighsensitivitytoCd,withvaluesof96-hLC50lowerandcloseto those ofhighlysensitivespecies;therefore,canbeproposedasagoodindicatorspecies.TheLC50 values of shrimpfromLP(24-h:269.8,48-h:67.45,72-h:30.66,96-h:24.50 mg Cd L1) werehigherthan those fromNR(24-h:153.3,48-h:32.65,72-h:18.40,96-h:12.26 mg Cd L1), indicatingahigher tolerance toCd,anditwasrelatedtotheirorigin.DifferentialresponsesintermsofMTinductionand LPO betweenpopulationswerealsodetected.InNRshrimps,theMTsynthesiswasinducedveryfast (24-h)andevenattheminimumconcentrationtested(3.06 mg Cd L1), whilenoincreaseswere observedinLPOlevels.Incontrast,theMTandLPOlevelsinLPshrimpswerenotincreasedrelativeto control,althoughtheyweremoretoleranttoCdthanthoseofNR;suggestingthepresenceofanother mechanisminvolvedinthedetoxificationofCd.Thedifferencesinbothsensitivityandbiochemical responsestoCdmayberelatedwiththeirenvironmentalhistories.
