Resumen:
A catalytic device was placing in the chimney of a
commercial air extractor and the catalytic oxidation of a
solvent composed of CHCl3, toluene and xylene and their mixture was analyzed.
Pt/bentonite and
MnOx/bentonite, prepared by wet impregnation and by deposited-precipitation of
bentonite monoliths,
respectively, were used as catalysts. The Pt/bentonite catalyst showed the best
catalytic performance, although
both systems are capable of reducing the emissions of Chlorinated VOCs. The
presence of water in the feed
stream leads the product distribution toward the formation of HCl. The
oxidation mechanism suggests that the
toluene molecule can be adsorbed preferentially and this phenomenon collaborate
with the oxidation of xylene and
CHCl3. On the other hand the results allow us to say that the bentonite
participates actively in the decomposition
of the CHCl3 .
