Resumen:
Manganese oxides have been prepared in the form of lamellar octahedral compounds (birnessites), tunnel structure (nsutite) and octahedral molecular sieves (cryptomelanes). All the oxides have been characterized by means of XRD, TRP and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms. The catalytic activity has been tested in the ethyl acetate oxidation reaction. The oxides presented oxidation state near 4+. The three oxides showed high activity toward the oxidation of ethyl acetate, achieving total conversion at temperature lower than 250ºC. Cryptomelane presented high surface area and was the more active catalysts. Nsutite also presented a high surface area but showed an intermediate behaviour between birnessite and criptomelane, with high activity at the beginning of the reaction and a lower activity at high conversion. The high activity could be related to the structure of the oxides showing Mn in more than one oxidation state.
