Dr. John Brookshire Thompson, who was born in the United States but has been working for a long time at the University of Cambridge, England, is one of the main references in the academic field to understand the role of the media in the development of society, and modern culture. His theoretical production, especially that stated in his book "Media and modernity: a social theory of media" (Polity Press, 1995), has been of great value in the development of research focused on the process of mediatization. In this interview, Thompson reflects on the transformations in the contemporary public sphere and revises his theoretical proposal in the light of the new media ecosystem.
