Resumen:
As has been recalled in recent reports by the present writer, it took some time
for the legal aspects of space debris to reach the Legal Subcommittee (LSC) of
the UN Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), an item now
included on its agenda as "general exchange of views on national mechanisms
relating to space debris mitigation measures" This landmark was significant. It
followed years of efforts from the academic world and other affected circles
involved in space activities. The main objective was to create awareness on the
increasing threats of space debris, both to the terrestrial and space environments
in the absence of precise rules on the matter.
