Resumen:
The presentation constitutes a contribution to reflect on religious orders as elites in the context of Colonial Latin America, especially in the 16th century. It was thought to put in dialogue Early modern Latin American history with Medieval history in an international conference hosted by the Department of History and the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA) in October, 17-20, 2018. Under the leadership of Dr. James Mixson (Department of History, University of Alabama) and Prof. Gert Melville (Research Center for the Comparative History of the Religious Orders [FOVOG], University of Dresden, Germany), the conference will serve as the first step in the development of a long-term, collaborative, international research network centered on the FOVOG in Dresden.
