Mixed alluvial-eolian signatures in overbank deposits of a dryland fluvial system (Miocene Mariño Formation, Argentina)

Overbank deposits may constitute a volumetrically significant fraction of alluvial successions, and potentially preserve important information on local (paleo)environmental conditions, unaffected by higher-energy, dominantly mechanical processes active within the channel-belt. While commonly described from temperate and humid tropical settings, overbank processes and facies associations from dryland environments can differ significantly in terms of primary Depositional factors (e.g. sediment concentration, flood paleohydraulics), but especially in the minor pedogenic modification and the possible overprinting by eolian action.
