The metal p-tolyl sulfide oxidation at 20°C, with hydrogen peroxide and acetonitrile or ethanol (96%) as solvent, give 90% of the corresponding sulfoxide. The catalyst was recoverable and reused without loss of the catalytic activity. Other ecofriendly oxidants were used and a complex 1:1 of urea-hydrogen peroxide was the most active. Also, the sulfones were obtained at 50°C and excess of hydrogen peroxide with similar yields. Keywords: heteropolyacids, oxidation, heterogeneous catalysis, hydrogen peroxide, sulfoxide
