The imprint of each of them is preserved in the sedimentary record of many basins and its indentification and study not only alow reconstructing the evolution of the depositional areas, but also establishing key surfaves and stratigraphic levels for intracontinental correlations. Two different basin types must be consideredc within the Carboniferous tectonic framework of the southwestern margin of Gondwana. Westernmost Chilenean basins show a complex history frequently masked by metamorphic and deformational processes. On the contrary, western Argentina basins exhibit thick sedimentary sequences and a more complete stratigraphic record without metamorphisms or intensive deformation. In this paper, a stratigraphic analysis of two Carboniferous basins located in western Argentina along the latitude 30 south (Paganzo and Rio Blanco) is presented.
