Resumen:
The Late Pleistocene-Holocene environmental and climatic history of southern South America has been the subject of numerous articles dealing with proxy records of diverse settings. This issue has been devoted to the Holocene considering our present concern on global warming, and the increasing importance of anthropogenic activities as dominant environmental controlling factors. The purpose was to gather contributions from different localities, and areas of Southern South America in order to better understand the climatic and environmental dynamics of the last ~12 ka. The contributions involve a wide variety ofclimatic conditions and environmental settings ranging from arid regions (Puna, the eastern distal piedmont of the Central Andes), the temperate semiarid/sub-humid to humid Pampean plain, the temperate/cold and humid/sub-humid to semiarid environments of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, as well as the South Atlantic Ocean.
