Resumen:
Diesel engine exhaust emissions were identified with 100% commercial Diesel, 75% commercial diesel and 25% soybean oil, and 50% commercial diesel and 50% soybean oil for 980, 1270, 1820 and 2420 revolutions per minute (RPM). A MWM International S4T diesel cycle engine in bench mode were used to perform the experiments. Four 80 L Tedlar collapsable chambers and the solid phase micro extraction (SPME) technique ensure COVs capture and pre-concentration. Samples were analysed on a gas chromatograph mass spectrometry (GC-MS). At lower RPM, the highest number of compounds were identified in the samples. For 100% commercial Diesel and 25% soybean oil blend, alkanes were identified with 72.41% chromatograms relative area at 1820 RPM. Primary alcohols were the priority compounds for the 50% soybean oil blend due to the presence of long chain unsaturated fatty acids. In addition, an increase in soybean oil blend causes a reduction in aromatic hydrocarbons relative area. Finally, no significant changes in engine parameters were observed with the addition of soybean oil. Keywords: Biofuels, Diesel engine, VOCs, SPME
