Rate coefficients for the reactions of OH radicals with the saturated aldehydes heptanal, octanal and nonanal have been determined at 298 K and (990  10) mbar of pressure in air in an environmental chamber using in situ FTIR spectroscopy to monitor the reactants. The following rate coefficients in units of kOH 1011 (cm3/molecule-1 s-1) were obtained: (3.1 ± 0.6) for heptanal, (3.3 ± 0.7) for octanal and (3.0 ± 0.6) for nonanal. Comparison with the rate coefficients of OH radical with other aldehydes of short chain and Structure-Activity Relationship are presented. In addition, potential atmospheric implications of the results are also discussed. Keywords: long chain aldehydes, in situ FTIR, OH radicals, kinetics study.
