Resumen:
A general description of the properties of astroparticle generated air showers is presented. Both theoretical and experimental aspects are discussed. The main characteristics of the AIRES program for air shower simulations are discussed. Recent developments are reviewed, in particular: (i) Impact of diffractive hadronic interactions on air shower development. (ii) Propagation of cosmic photons in the Earth´s magnetosphere.
