Resumen:
Metabolic disorders including obesity, T2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome constitute major risk factors for cerebral dysfunction. Several studies report that insulin resistance and inflammation promote cognitive impairment, playing an essential role in the development of neurodegenerative disorders. Our aim is to study the microglial response to dietary lipids and its role on cell-cell communication with hippocampal neurons by EVs. To this end, primary cultures of murine microglial cells were treated with palmitic acid (PA), a saturated fatty acid abundantly present in western diets and well-known inducer of insulin resistance in vitro. Two different concentrations of PA were tested: 0.125 and 0.5mM. After exposure to PA, cytokine levels were measured in conditioned media by ELISA.
