Resumen:
Since the discovery of sucrose biosynthesis, considerableadvances have been made in understanding itsregulation and crucial role in the functional biology ofplants. However, important aspects of this metabolismare still an enigma. Studies in cyanobacteria and thepublication of the sequences of several complete genomeshave recently significantly increased our knowledgeof the structures of proteins involved in sucrosemetabolism and given us new insights into their originand further evolution.
