Resumen:
The continental sedimentary succession of the Payogastilla Group represents the infilling of the Cenozoic foreland basin, related to the subduction of the Nazca Plate below the South America Plate. The previous studies indicate that the Eocene and Oligocene deformation events did not generated high relief in the Eastern Cordillera. However, the axial 2000 m thick sedimentary infilling depocenter since the Eocene to Middle Miocene including a good preserved eolian succession, would indicate that the basin was formed by local flexural subsidence linked to the basement blocks uplift. The relief could be related to the fault displacement involved the basement that will be modeled using structural and thermochronology data in the future.
