Resumen:
A recent one-dimensional model proposed by Levine and Somorjai [Surf. Sci. 232 (1990) 407] to explain the behavior of catalytic reactions on metal surfaces involving cooperative processes is discussed and generalized to two dimensions. It is shown by Monte Carlo simulation that the model is capable to provide an explanation of: (i) why strong chemisorptive sites are also highly active sites for catalytic reactions, (ii) why bond breaking preferably occurs over a narrow temperature range and, (iii) why this range is lower for rougher surfaces. © 1994.
