Resumen:
The effect of parental female age on the percent of eggs laid which hatched was analyzed in the reduviid Triatoma phyllosoma pallidipennis (Stal ) under laboratory conditions. The nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis test indicated that there is a statistically significant decrease in the percentage of hatching between eggs laid by females aged 4 to 28 weeks and females aged 49 to 87 weeks. However, no significant difference was found between age classes of 5 weeks within each of those age groups. The reduction of percent hatch with the age of the parental female affects the calculation of the intrinsic rate of natural increase by means of Lotka's equation, which assumes a fixed mortality schedule.
