Resumen:
The intensive use of fertilizers, the liquid and solid waste stream leads to high contents of nitrate and nitrite of the natural water sources.  These content may reach the toxic concentration level.  Among the processes used for nitrate elimination, the catalytic reduction with H2 is one of the most atractive technologies, since there is no formation of solid or liquid effluents.  Pd-Cu catalysts supported on inorganic materials have been studied by several groups.  In order to develop materials useful for industrial applications, ion-exchange resins are an interesting alternative. In this work, a weak anionic macroporous resin, with different levels of Pd and Cu is studied. The Cu was introduced either by ion exchange or by surface-catalytic reduction.  With this latter sample, the best activity results were obtained both at high and low loading, which is ascribed to a better paladium-copper interaction.  The loading improves conversion mainly due to the decrease in the nitrate retention due to the increase in particle size (XRD). Consequently, the reaction on these samples involved a join effect of ion retention on the resin, and their reduction, being necessary to take into account both effect when dealing with this support.
