Resumen:
Airborne pollen concentrations are recorded at discrete time intervals that can be decomposed into sub-series to be related to both biological and physical forcing processes. While secular and longer-period variations have well-developed approaches, the complexity of intra-seasonal variability is less accessible by simple techniques. We propose to apply the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to study the relationship between airborne pollen concentration and the synoptic variability of the atmosphere at Sunchales city (Sta. Fe, Argentina) during two measurement periods. Pollen variability range from 37 to 51% of the total variance for periods less than 10.7 days. These results agree with the observed wind speed, pressure, and temperature variability in the same bandwidth.
