Resumen:
Rupture or continuity are two alternative ways for characterizing the relation between past and present in order to account for historic changes. Thus revolutions (whether cultural, social or theoretical) have been understood as periods of rupture, while temporal transitions carried out smoothly and without abrupt changes (“normal periods”) imply continuity with the past. Here I intend to go into the categories of space of experience and horizon of expectations as formal indicators capable of being applied to the concrete analysis of historical transitions. At the same time, the categories of tradition and traditionality, which are internal to the space of experience, might allow us to understand the effective way in which the past affects the present.
