Resumen:
Knowledge of the Patagonian mammal fauna is far from complete. Information is scarce, taxonomically outdated, and ussually contained in continental, national or local geographical works. This paper presents an updated list of mammal species that inhabit the Argentine Patagonia, compiled information from scientific literature, unpublished information and lists from reference collections in national and foreign museums. The taxonomy used in Wilson & Reeder (1993) was ussually followed for sequence of orders and families, and for scientific nomenclature, except when is explained in the footnotes. The Patagonian mammal fauna is made up of 77 species belonging to 46 genera,17 families and 8 orders. Rodentia is the largest order with 42 species belonging to 23 genera and 6 families. Muridae is the most diverse family, with 14 genera and 24 species. Ctenomys and Akodon are the most diverse genera with 8 and 5 species, respectively. There are also 31 monotypical mammal genera and 13 exotic mammal species inhabiting different areas in Patagonia.
