Resumen:
Insulin growth factors (IGFs) are importantmediators of growth, development, differentiation and survivalof normal and transformed cells. Many complex and diversetypes of molecules modulate these actions. In vitro and in vivoexperiments have demonstrated that this system (IGF) isstrongly related to the establishment of the transformedphenotype. Recent studies confirmed the association betweenserum levels of IGF-I and diverse malignant diseases whilesome relationships with other pathologies since DiabetesMellitus have been described. Currently, IGFs are consideredimportant targets for the study of new therapeutic drugs andstrategies for cancer treatment. In this review, we havesummarized the latest data specially linking IGF-I and itsreceptor with breast cancer.
