Resumen:
Biomedical applications of Electrochemistry: the use of electric fields in cancer therapyElectrochemistry underlies the effects triggered by the application of electric fields (EF) in tissues. EF based cancer treatments developed in recent years as an effective therapy for certain types of tumors. Although having less undesired effects than traditional cancer therapies like surgery, radio or chemo, EF therapies still have some undesired side effects that it is necessary to minimize. The first part of this review presents a summary of EF solid tumor therapies that have reached clinical practice. The second describes some examples of the underlying electrochemistry utilized to optimize them through mathematical or in silico modeling, in particular of ion transport and pH fronts evolution.
