Resumen:
Pharmaceutical compounds such as sodium diclofenac and carbamazepine are considered emerging pollutants and are being detected in surface and wastewater throughout the world. They have been found in South American rivers, specifically in the Suquía River, in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. Recently, numerous studies have been reported about of the use of ferrites as photocatalysts in the degradation of emerging pollutants. In this work the photocatalytic evaluation is presented, Cobalt ferrite, was obtained by Pechini method calcined at 800°C. The material was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy Uv visible spectroscopy, Mössbauer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. A pure phase of cobalt-iron ferrite with spinel structure was obtained, with an investment of between 70-80%. It was evaluated as a photocatalyst in the degradation of simulated effluent solutions of sodium diclofenac sodium and carbamazepine, under UV-germicidal radiation source and hydrogen peroxide were used as the oxidizing agent. The degradation of the contaminants was followed by high performance liquid chromatography and UV-visible spectroscopy of the reaction samples. A mineralization of 86% and 98% of the total organic carbon present in the reaction medium was obtained for each drug, respectively, in four hours of photoreation.
