Resumen:
Manufacturing processes and thermomechanical treatments have a marked influence on the microstructure and texture of metallic alloys and their final products. In this work, sand casting and rapid solidification by planar-flow casting were used to obtain Fe-15Mn-5Si-9Cr-5Ni shape memory alloy rods and ribbons, respectively. The sand-cast material was then subject to various rolling and annealing conditions. The microstructures of the samples were analysed by optical and electron microscopy and textures determined by x-ray. These features have an important influence on the g®e martensitic transformation, responsible for the shape memory effect. Shape recovery after tension and bending tests is discussed in terms of the defects introduced by the different processing routes and the role played by the rolling and rapid solidification textures.
