Resumen:
Seasonalandspatialvariabilityoftracemetalconcentrationsandofabatteryofantioxidantparameters were evaluatedindigestiveglandoftheribbedmussel Aulacomyaatraatra. Fe,AlandCuaccumulated in tissueexhibitedmaximumvaluesinwinter,coincidingpartiallywiththehighestlabileconcentra- tions ofFeandCuinsediment.Metals,asotherpollutants,areknowntoinfluencetheoxidativestatus of organismsandantioxidantenzymeshavebeenoftenproposedasbiomarkersofcontaminanteffects. Seasonalvariationsoftracemetalsdidnotappeartoinfluencethoseofbiochemicalparameters,which generallyshowedanoppositetrendwithhigherenzymaticactivitiesinsummerwhentracemetal concentrationswerelower.OrganismsfromPuntaCuevas(controlsite)showedhigherinductionof reactiveoxygenspeciesproductionthanthosefrombothconsideredimpactedsites,suggestingthe possibilityofsomebiochemicaladaptationinorganismsorahighermodulationofenvironmentaland physiologicalfactorsonantioxidantresponsesthanlevelsoftracemetals.Thisstudy,whichisthefirst in theareainthismatter,showedthatseasonalvariationsofpotentialbiomarkersshouldbe incorporatedintointerpretationoflong-termbiomonitoringstudiesinthismarinecoastalecosystem.
