Itscommon name is ?paramela? and is a species with a long history of use among the native societies ofthe Argentinean-Chilean Patagonia. Due to its cultural and symbolic value, it stands out as part of thebiocultural heritage of the region. It is part of the knowledge and practices related mainly with the healthand subsistence of Mapuche and Tehuelche communities since pre-hispanic times (Molares and Ladio2009, Ciampagna and Caparelli 2012). It is a plant used for human consumption as medicine (Martínez-Crovetto 1980, Campos et al. 1997, Montes et al. 2001) as well as ornamental and melliferous (Forconeand Muñoz 2009, Green and Ferreyra 2011).
