Resumen:
The effect of adding of Ni or Co (3%) to a Pt (1%)/Al2O3 catalyst in APR of ethylene glycol to obtain H2 was studied. The samples were prepared by incipient wetness co-impregnation of metal nitrates on alumina Sasol. The precursors were calcined in air and reduced in H2. Fresh catalysts were characterized by ICP, CO chemisorption, BET surface. The catalytic activity was evaluated in APR of ethylene glycol in water to 10%, with a flow rate of 0.02 cm3min-1, 498 K, 22 bar, WHSV = 11.7 h-1 and a gas flow outlet of 3 cm3.min-1. The coke accumulated in the used catalyst was measured by TPO. H2 yield and the conversion of reactant to gaseous products were determined. The selectivity to H2 and CH4 for each catalyst was compared and the time to achieve stability of the catalyst was evaluated. It was found that the addition of Ni or Co to Pt catalyst increases H2 production. Cobalt, remains low selectivity to CH4, coke formation decreases from 1.9% to 0.8% and increases yield of H2 from 30% to 34%. The addition of Ni, generates a higher yield H2 (42%) but also, increases the coke generation and the CH4 production.
