Resumen:
5-Ethoxymethylfurfural (5-EMF), a diesel bioadditive, is formed from 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) with ethanol, obtained by dehydration of hexoses that may come from hydrolysis oflignocellulose residues. The reaction is catalyzed by acidic Brønsted solids, with a suitable porousstructure to avoid diffusive restrictions. SBA-15 sulfonated mesoporous silica with an S/Si ratio of0.054 gave the highest HMF conversion (94%) and EMF yield (85%) after 3 h in a batch reactor at140 ° C and 10 bar N2 . The effect of reagent concentration and reuse of catalysts was evaluated. The SBA-15 catalyst retained its activity for 4 reaction cycles, reaching a conversion of 78% after the final cycle and a yield of 68%. EMF production was optimized from a solution of 90 g L-1 HMF in ethanol, a load of 20 g of catalyst L-1 and 1.5 h of reaction, obtaining a conversion and selectivity> 94% with a formation rate of 69.1 g L-1 h-1 . The carbon balance between 78 and 89% indicates humin formation in parallel with the reaction. Ethyloxopentanoate (EOP) was also detected, the yield of which was
