Resumen:
NGC 604 is a giant H II region powered by more than 200 O stars. The observational evidence indicates that star-formation processes are currently taking place in this region. Aiming to characterize the youngest stellar pop- ulation and its environment we are performing a study using near-infrared images taken with Gemini-North. We derived reliable J H K photometry for 3720 objects in the field and identify 221 sources showing infrared ex- cess. More than 70% of the latter ones follow the distribution of neutral and molecular gas found by other authors, where the conditions are appropiate to host new bursts of star-formation. An extinction map obtained based on narrow-band images is also shown.
