Resumen:
The title compound, {[K(C5H9N2O7P2)(H2O)]H2O}n, is polymericand consists of layers parallel to (001) interconnected byhydrogen-bonding and – interactions. The K+ cation iseightfold coordinated in a KO8 environment by O atoms fromthree different chelating zoledronate units and two coordinatedwater molecules. The zoledronate group presents itsusual zwitterionic character, with negative charges in thesingly protonated phosphonate groups and a positive charge atthe protonated imidazole N atom. The anion binds to threedifferent K+ cations in a (so far unreported) triply chelatingmanner. Intra- and interplanar interactions are enhanced by avariety of hydrogen bonds involving all available O—H andN—H donors. A strong imidazole–phosphonate C—H  Ointeraction is present in the structure.
