In this presentation of the book Las Trampas del Pasado. Las Fuerzas Armadas y su Integración al Estado Democrático (Buenos Aires: FCE), I would like to highlight, from an ethnographic analysis of the actions of the government, the conditions that set off the controversial process of democratization of the Argentine Armed Forces, the specific meaning it took in areas such as Education and Gender, and lastly, the so called delay of decades in deciding what do with the military, that resulted, nevertheless, in their marginal integration to the State. Rather than consider the sequence of events, I will examine the policies implemented between 2005 and 2011 where certain differential schemes of interpretation regarding the way in which the traumatic past affected the view of the present of the military can be identified.
