Resumen:
The history of Greek comedy theatrical production in Spanish language has been little explored. Being, in many cases, the work of amateurs and student groups, it is difficult to compile an exhaustive record. In Spain, Mérida Classical Theater Festival  -founded in 1933 though suspended until 1953- have staged Aristophanes regularly along its editions. Menander and his New Comedy, however, have not enjoyed the same popularity. In Portugal, the staging of Greek comedy -Old and New- has been tied mainly to university life. Aristophanes´ comedies also figure on theatre billboards across the major cities of Latin America. During the last forty years they have been a device to protest against war policies and male domination. The Encyclopedia of Greek Comedy is a comprehensive and accessible reference covering all of Greek comedy and its reception from antiquity to the present. Features the work of nearly 200 established and rising scholars from around the world. Contains more than 1300 entries, organized in A-Z format, with helpful cross-references and an index of authors and plays. Provides extensive and detailed coverage of the work of those dramatists who have no complete plays extant.
