Resumen:
Electric arc furnace slag (EAFS) is a fine dust that contains large amounts of iron oxides, which makes it attractive for Fenton oxidation processes. In this study, heterogeneous Fenton oxidation using EAFS as catalyst shows effective degradation of aqueous bisphenol-A (BPA) in acidic media. The effect of EAF concentration and temperature on BPA degradation, TOC conversion and H2O2 efficiency was studied in a batch reactor. In all conditions, BPA degraded during the first minutes of the reaction. No significant improvement of mineralization was observed beyond 0.5g/L at 25OC. TOC removal considerably accelerated and improved as temperature increased up to 70OC. The consumption of H2O2 increased with increasing temperature while remained practically unchanged as EAFS load in the reactor increased. EAFS allowed excellent mineralization levels.
